GoDaddy Review: 15 Best Assets To Boost Business, Or Not?

This is one of the most known web hosting providers on the net: it’s GoDaddy, and it is a well-known brand also for its strong presence in terms of communication and advertising.

Now, it’s time to think about GoDaddy’s pros and cons, in order for you to decide if this hosting can serve your specific business needs.

Before diving deeper into this GoDaddy review, let us say that this company is also very well known for its domain-related services.

In fact, there are so many people who currently use GoDaddy as a registrar, more than a hosting provider.

It’s your choice, that’s why we’re going to consider both of these aspects because they are essential to your business.

In most cases, still, the importance of domains is overlooked, and you must not do the same error.

Generally speaking, we could say that GoDaddy has so many features, as well as upsells, that some people may be confused. However, it remains a great choice for people who are just starting out, even though there are some things to point out.

If you don’t want to read the full review, you can jump to the conclusions and make faster decisions.

If you want to learn a bit more about GoDaddy, keep reading and discover all pros and cons of one of the most used service providers on the web.

GoDaddy Review

GoDaddy Review: Is This So Good?

One of the things that are immediately evident after the first analysis of all GoDaddy features is that (literally) this hosting has tons of additional features you can purchase immediately or after a few times.

In many cases, people report being confused by the fact that they don’t really know if and how to take advantage of such a high number of features.

This is not an issue, to be honest, because all these features are good and really can help your business stand out.

However, despite GoDaddy is generally considered as one of the best options for people who are just starting out, the risk of being confused still is quite high.

There are many reviews on the net, and if you take your time to read some, you can see that opinions are mixed.

GoDaddy Reviews Trustpilot

With a so large customer base, it’s totally normal that there are people who complain about something.

Only to make a few examples, we have what follows:

  • problems with the customer service
  • problems with technical support
  • problems with renewals (and the price is not an exception, but this is a thing you must know in advance)
  • problems with domains brokerage
  • problems with billing that may be a bit confusing from time to time

At the same time, you can find many more people who, on the contrary, are very happy with the services provided by GoDaddy.

In particular, you can find that one of the most liked things is the range of domain name products, along with aftermarket for newly released domains.

We want to point out one important thing: there are some reviews that talk about SCAM or very bad services, and we know this is NOT true.

Problems can occur, for sure, but this also happens for reliable companies, especially if they have so many millions of clients worldwide.

Godaddy SEO Reviews

This is crucial for people who work online, and GoDaddy dedicates special attention to it.

The service is not included, you must add it to your dashboard, by paying a fee. This may not be so good for many people, however, it may help your business in being found on the net.

As you can see, GoDaddy SEO provides:

  • The optimization of your website for search engines
  • The suggestion of the most profitable keywords
  • Tracking and optimization
  • Inclusion in Google Business

All the above can be done separately, but you need to know what to do, that’s why if you are interested in growing your business with SEO, this additional service is really worth it.

The thing we like the most is that all the configuration process is easy and straight-forward.

You are guided through a series of screens with questions and you only need to describe your business: GoDaddy SEO tools will do all the rest.

You’ll start by optimizing your Home Page, then you can do it for all pages of your website.

GoDaddy Smartline Reviews

This service generally receives very positive reviews.

It basically allows you to add a business line to your smartphone so that you can keep separate your business calls from personal calls, with a second phone number.

This service offers a free trial, then you have to pay (prices start from $4.99/month).

If you plan to use your phone for your business (i.e. if you are a consultant), this service is very useful.

If you plan to work online only (affiliate marketing, for instance), this service is not needed in most cases.

GoDaddy Uptime

GoDaddy has quite good uptime, even though it’s not the best on the market.

According to data, GoDaddy has 3.5 hours of total downtime per year, which is quite good, even though there are those that perform better.

By the way, if compared with at least 50+ competitors, GoDaddy is above the average.

Website Security GoDaddy

For what concerns security, GoDaddy presents four opportunities, as you can find in the image posted below.

These plans are not free, meaning that the default security provided by GoDaddy can be largely improved.

This is not so good, in our opinion, because there are some aspects related to security that should be available from the very beginning.

However, all plans presented above have some interesting features, such as a specific tool that accelerates CDN performances.

Unfortunately, the essential plan does not have a special tool for advanced mitigation and protection from DDoS attacks.

In short, we believe that you should have more for less.

Another big issue is about SSL certificates, but we’ll talk about that later.

We suggest reading carefully the comprehensive guide that GoDaddy dedicates to web security, on this page.

Always concerning security, we also recommend checking the PRO Security Suite of iThemes, even if it’s from an external provider.

In fact, it integrates well with basically any website and protects your assets easily, without the need to afford complicated solutions.

GoDaddy Website Builder

Below the table with plans and prices of GoDaddy Website Builder.

The #1 good thing is that you have the SSL certificate for all plans. However, we think that paying a monthly fee to create a website is not the best option.

There are so many web templates, especially if you use WordPress, that can make your business stand out.

In addition, you must be familiar with web design, you should know what converts the most in your specific niche to create a website from scratch on your own.

We’d suggest directing your valuable money on other features, like security, for instance, more than designing a website.

Strictly speaking, this service is very good.

Their “GoDaddy Insight” special feature, which periodically evaluates how your website is going, but also your social media and your marketing activities, is very helpful to plan your future actions.

GoDaddy Website Builder Trial

This is good because you can start trying GoDaddy Website Builder for free (no credit card required).

This will be of great help to plan your business image.

GoDaddy Website Builder Review

This service collects positive reviews, in general.

However, it very depends on the specific needs of your business.

In fact, it presents limited SEO features (you must pay for additional tools).

Moreover, if your website has a significant number of pages (or posts), this builder may not be the right choice.

GoDaddy Hosting Review

They have four progressive hosting plans to choose from.

The first one is very basic, and we don’t really recommend it, despite GoDaddy presents it as the ideal solution for one website only.

However, this plan has only one database, 256 Mb RAM only, and this is just for a little website (while it would be best to work with a plan that can support your business growth).

The 30 Gb of disk space is very good, especially because there are not so many competitors that do the same with their basic plans.

GoDaddy Business Hosting Review

The Business Hosting solution is made of the other three alternatives, as follows:

  • Economy
  • Deluxe
  • Ultimate

The Economy plan comes along with 1 free domain + corresponding email address: not bad, we would recommend this specific plan for people who are just starting out.

The Deluxe plan is more comprehensive, and gives you the opportunity to create unlimited websites: this is particularly good for people who want to run more websites connected – or not – to their main business activity (in short, this plan allows you to differentiate your business). At this cost, the offer is really competitive.

The Ultimate plan is for people who want the most from shared hosting: the CPU is 2x faster and you can handle much more traffic than previously considered hosting plans.

As you can see, GoDaddy hosting services are progressive and allow your business to grow, even though we suggest starting from the Economy even if you’re totally new.

GoDaddy Upgrade Hosting

In order for you to upgrade plans, GoDaddy prepared a detailed step-by-step guide to follow. This process is quite easy and straight-forward.

You only have to go to your GoDaddy dashboard, click on “manage” under the “Web Hosting” section, and select “Upgrade”.

In some cases, there could be some issues along the way (as reported by several customers), but the process will be fine.

GoDaddy Reseller Review

This is not for people who are just starting out, however, still is a good business opportunity.

As you see from the screenshot, GoDaddy provides two different opportunities to start such a business: Basic and Pro.

There’s basically just one difference between these categories, namely the discount fees, 20% for the Basic and 40% for the Pro plan.

GoDaddy also offers you the possibility to earn money with other related products, such as domains, website builder services, security (powered by Sucuri), SSL certificates, managed WordPress, and more.

GoDaddy Workspace

When you sign up with GoDaddy (and you purchase a plan), Workspace becomes your email security solution.

The most interesting feature is the possibility to handle Gmail and GoDaddy emails simultaneously in real-time.

According to reviews, Workspace is highly reliable and pretty easy to use.

The main benefits are the following:

Data Storage
You can benefit from a big space for email data storage. Your inbox stores emails even in the absence of regular maintenance by you or your communications manager.
High Compatibility
You can get access to Workspace from any device, at any moment: in addition, you can manage different email applications at the very same time.
You can benefit from a high level of security for business emails and important messages: you can also recover deleted messages thanks to a good backup function.

Concerning backups, in case you prefer making them directly from your WordPress dashboard, you can use the Backupbuddy plugin, the #1 recommended option for people who want to backup their websites fast and easy.

Professional Address
You can benefit from the best possible customization, which means more professionality and the opportunity to brand better.

GoDaddy Workspace is for sure one of the best applications you can rely on when you’re just starting out (but even at more advanced stages of your business journey).

GoDaddy Secure Email

Emails are kept secure thanks to many spam filters that are pretty successful in keeping unwanted emails away from your inbox.

You also have the opportunity to control email filters on your own, from any device.

Moreover, Workspace has an inbuilt streamline lock that secures crucial emails and other messages.

GoDaddy Email Marketing Review

This is not for all businesses, even though you have probably been told that email marketing is essential: well, it depends.

If you want to start an email marketing campaign with this service provided by GoDaddy, you can choose from one of the above plans.

The basic plan is perfect for people with a few subscribers, or even for websites with no followers at the moment.

In fact, you can benefit from several features, such as personalized reports on your email campaign, protection from spam, special buttons to engage more your readers, a nice drag-and-drop email editor to craft messages, and more.

Very good to start, however, fees will increase proportionally to the number of subscribers to your newsletter, that’s why you must evaluate very carefully the costs/benefits ratio.

GoDaddy  Social Media Marketing Review

This is another optional feature that many people like a lot, but it all depends on your niche and especially on the use you want to do of social media.

GoDaddy cares a lot about social media, as confirmed by this special section of their website.

GoDaddy Social is quite expensive and should be used only by established businesses, or at least by businesses that have money to spend on social media.

This because social media marketing can be tough, and the risk of losing money is still high.

GoDaddy can handle everything for you, but you must remember that there is no 100% guarantee of success.

GoDaddy Online Store Review

In this case, we should consider two distinct things.

The “online store” could refer to your website, and GoDaddy has a lot of features available to start your online store even for free (trial available).

At the same time, you could also refer to the huge GoDaddy’s marketplace where to purchase domains, but we’ll see this specific feature later.

Back to your online store, you can start for free and you have the possibility to add up to 5K products: in addition, it integrates very well with Website Builder to make even faster putting your new eCommerce online.

To help your business succeed online, you can add SEO tools, Google My Business, and, if you’re also on social media, once added products to your store you’ll receive a reminder for updating your social accounts as well.

GoDaddy Online Store is optimized for mobile users, which makes the user experience better than before.

In short, you only have to start with Website Builder and you’ll find “Online Store” as one of the very many applications available from your dashboard.

GoDaddy Ecommerce Review

This application has very positive reviews, especially because of several reasons:

  • you can start fast
  • you can handle your store very easily
  • you can add advanced eCommerce features while remaining in your basic plan
  • you have the opportunity to make your business stand out thanks to SEO tools, email marketing, and social media, directly connected to your store

If you’re planning to start an online store, GoDaddy is probably the web hosting that provides more features.

Of course, it depends on your needs, but GoDaddy Online Store is really packed with good features.

In the case you plan to use this application in association with WordPress, GoDaddy provides a dedicated plan (read below).

GoDaddy WordPress Hosting Review

The image below presents the four different plans you can choose from, in the case you are interested in working with WordPress (we highly recommend it if you are new in the online space and, more in general, if you don’t want hassles so that you can focus on contents of your websites).

From Basic to eCommerce, there’s a thing that stands out: you can only have one website.

This is probably good for most online marketers, however, if you plan to differentiate your online offer through more websites (or you’d like to run more stores at one), this will not be possible.

So, we recommend thinking very well before starting if there is an opportunity that you can add stores in the future.

If not, this can be an ideal solution for your case.

We don’t want to make a list of good features made available by those plans, however, there are some things to point out, such as:

  • performance enhancement with CDN
  • automatic updates
  • always updated to the latest PHP version
  • one free domain, plus the opportunity to use a “temporary” domain name if still are not sure how to name your website
  • easy website migrations

These plans are very good for basically any use.

GoDaddy WordPress SSL

This is a thing that could be better or improved: in fact, SSL certificates are for sale and you need to purchase them. In fact, there are four different plans, and from September 2020, all SSL certificates cannot be longer than 13 months each.

To avoid problems, especially for people who are not experts, we recommend the Managed SSL, and GoDaddy will install everything.

Unfortunately, many other competitors, such as Hostinger, SiteGround, GreenGeeks, and many more provide free SSL certificates along with their hosting services.

GoDaddy WordPress Review

There are a lot more positive than negative reviews when it comes to GoDaddy and WordPress.

We definitely agree with them, you can take advantage of a great number of excellent features, such as the low cost, a large number of applications to improve the site, and the ease of use.

So, it’s totally recommended by us.

GoDaddy 365

According to the definition, you can read directly from GoDaddy’s official blog, this service called “Microsoft 365” is a monthly, subscription-based productivity suite for business, education, and government organizations.

Microsoft 365 is provided by Microsoft, and uses cloud-based technology to offer access and updates to Office applications: they are Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

You can download the suite (and all programs) on your PC and get all the updates in real-time (this works until you are a registered user, by paying a fee).

Two of the things that are most appreciated about GoDaddy 365 are the versatility and its collaborative features.

We’d recommend this service especially if you have a team, probably not 100% necessary if you are a solopreneur (but it depends on your specific work).

GoDaddy Office 365 Email

The email is one of the best features that GoDaddy 365 provides.

It’s about Outlook, one of the most used services in the world.

There is a very well-written blog post that explains deeply the importance of integrating Outlook with your business.

GoDaddy Office 365 Pricing

As always, GoDaddy offers more than a single choice.

The basic plan, called Email Essentials, is just essential, meaning that you have a branded email address, a spam filter, plus 10 Gb of disk space, and no more.

The intermediate plan, called Online Essentials, provides all Apps of the 365 suite only online (you can’t download them on your PC), and 1 TB of disk space.

The advanced plan, called Business Premium, provides many more features, including the possibility to work with your team, and also manage everything from mobile devices.

We’d say that the Email Essentials plan, is really too much “essential”, meaning that even a small business may need the intermediate plan to have greater efficiency in email management.

GoDaddy Domain Review

According to many people, GoDaddy is the #1 largest and trusted domain registrar in the world.

You can search your future domain, and you also have the possibility to know if this domain is valuable and/or has some features that will make it good for search engines.

In short, GoDaddy gives you the occasion to make a short “analysis” of your future domain in advance, to foresee if this may be a good fit for your business.

Strictly speaking about domains, we suggest checking their domain search tool, but we prefer to register a new domain on Namesilo.

Personal opinion, of course, but we find the Namesilo’s panel better to manage more domain names at once.

Not to mention the FREE WHOIS Privacy included in the $8/year fee to purchase any domain.

GoDaddy Expired Domains

In this case, you can recover your domain directly from the GoDaddy Domain Control Center.

Remember that you have no more than 30 days to recover your domain because after this period of time it will go to auction.

But there’s another case to consider.

In some cases, it would be good to purchase an expired domain, especially if it’s relevant to your niche and/or has some good backlinks and/or domain or page authority: these features could seriously help your website grow faster.

That’s why we suggest visiting this website: Expired Domains.

You can find the largest number of expired domains, and it’s updated on a 12hours basis.

GoDaddy Domain Broker Service Review

This is quite an advanced feature and for sure not suitable for everyone.

In some cases, you may want to purchase a domain that’s currently registered by someone else.

We do not recommend doing that in general, but GoDaddy can help you to know if this domain would be available for purchase.

In short, this service is made by the following steps:

  • reaching out to the current domain name owner
  • negotiate a sales price within your budget
  • facilitate the domain name sales transaction

In all the above-listed phases GoDaddy will keep you anonymous.

In our opinion, it would be much better to work on the domain name to find an immediately available alternative.

GoDaddy Domain Transfer Process

There is a dedicated procedure to make things easier.

This process is made of four steps.

First of all, you must unblock the domain you want to transfer (you must do that on your current domain registrar).

The second step is to search your domain on the GoDaddy Transfer Domain Tool.

Then you have to insert the unique auth. code to complete the transfer.

The last step is to wait for 5-7 days maximum, and your domain will be available on GoDaddy.

There’s another procedure to consider, in the case you want to move a domain from one GoDaddy account to another.

Transfer Domain From GoDaddy To GoDaddy

In this case, you only have to go to your GoDaddy Domain Control Center, and use the option “Move to Other GoDaddy Account”.

You’re also asked to write the specific email address attached to the domain.

The final thing to do (optional) is to copy (or not) data of the domain in the new account.

Please note that domain transfer with GoDaddy is subject to some fees (free, with some limitations, for the 1st year after your signup).

There are many other web hosting service providers that, on the contrary, do not charge for domain transfers.

GoDaddy Transfer Coupon

GoDaddy gives the opportunity for discounts on a regular basis.

As you can see from the image above, from time to time there are special discounts.

We can’t say how and when, however, if you are interested in this opportunity (and for sure you should be), we suggest monitoring the situation very carefully.

GoDaddy Domain Parking

You can park a domain, in the case you just want to keep it stored and/or you don’t have a specific website/project for it.

GoDaddy helps you creating the specific home page for parked domains, and also gives you the opportunity to sell your parked domain.

This is pretty advanced stuff because selling domains is far from easy.

However, you can take out a monthly subscription, and earn money from advertising on your parked domains.

Of course, they need traffic, that’s why the convenience must be evaluated on a case by case basis.

On GoDaddy’s blog, you can find a very good, comprehensive, and full of practical examples blog post to learn everything you need on how to make money with parked domains.

GoDaddy Value Checker

Also known as “GoDaddy Appraisal”, this service gives you an estimate of your domain’s value.

There is no direct correlation between the estimated value of a domain and the money you will make with it.

In fact, everything depends on your niche, your strategy, your content, and very many other things.

GoDaddy Pricing

GoDaddy hosting price is generally good, and we recommend considering GoDaddy especially if you’re starting out.

The Economy plan costs $2.99 a month the first year (with discount), and $7.99 after., which introduces the “downside” related to GoDaddy hosting plans, namely higher (than expected) renewal fees.

For what concerns the second plan, called Deluxe, it’s $4.99 per month the first year, and $8.99 after.

The latest and most complete GoDaddy hostings, called Ultimate and Maximum, cost more, and their renewal rates are even higher, reaching $16.99 per month.

GoDaddy VPS Hosting

This is a more advanced opportunity.

We recommend using it only if you’re an expert, or you have a big website with specific needs.

Security and many other features are better, and you pay more.

However, this is not the real point.

GoDaddy Domain Renewal Price

Renewal prices are higher than introductory prices, and this may be an issue for many people.

The real point is that you have to pay for basically every other additional feature, from Website Builder to Email, to work seriously on your business.

This may be good, from one side, because it means delivered value.

On the other side, however, you could really be overwhelmed by the number of addons to purchase in order to better manage your site.

This is particularly valid when you compare GoDaddy with several other competitors, which make available more things without any additional cost (the case of SSL certificates is probably the most relevant).

So, we strongly recommend carefully evaluate your situation, and fill a list of addons you really need.

GoDaddy is one of the most used hosting providers all around the net. With low introductory prices, and the largest domain registrar is reliable and delivers a lot of useful features.

However, it lacks some critical features in basic plans, while providing a lot of addons (you need to pay for almost everything you add to your website).

Great for people who are starting out, but also for more advanced users, as long as they have some money to spend on improving their site over time.

In short, we recommend GoDaddy, because it really has so many features to make a website (and related business) stand out.

To make things even clearer, we list below a series of pros (green bullets), and cons (yellow bullets for things that could be improved, or red bullets for real downsides).

Here are the pros:

  • One of the most used hosting providers
  • The largest domain database
  • Good basic security on all plans
  • The integration of Smartline
  • Good uptime
  • One of the best website builders (free trial available)
  • Easy to upgrade and transfer domains
  • Great benefits from GoDaddy Workspace
  • Integration with Office 365
  • Complete marketing suite (with email and social media)
  • Perfect for eCommerce, even if you have thousands of products to sell
  • 100% compatible with WordPress
  • Possibility to earn money from parked domains
  • Periodic coupons and discounts
  • An easy to use control panel

Here are things that could be improved:

  • In some cases, the customer service may have some difficulties answering your questions quickly (there are millions of customers)
  • Quite limited features in the basic plan
  • The lack of SSL certificates (you must pay for them)
  • Renewal prices are higher than expected
  • The domain brokerage service may have some problems from time to time (because of the enormous amount of domains)
  • The money-back-guarantee and billing may be confusing
  • Very many addons, and upsells

Here are real downsides:

  • There are no real downsides
