SiteGround Review: 12 Priceless Tools For Great Websites

Siteground is one of the top web hosting service providers you can rely on.

We like it a lot, and the majority of the websites we’re working on are running on Siteground.

The feature we like the most is the versatility of projects that you can realize thanks to Siteground hosting.

If you’re a small business, you’re totally covered.

If you’re a medium or even large business, there are so many opportunities to adapt hosting to your specific needs.

In addition, if you’re working with WordPress, you’ll find their official plugin called “Siteground Optimizer” very handy and easy to use to optimize the performance of your website.

One of the other interesting facts is that you can manage more websites easily, from a single dashboard, and the use of cPanel (now “Site Tools”) is more than simply “easy”, even for beginners.

We’ll cover everything you need to know in this comprehensive Siteground review, but from the very beginning, we strongly recommend that you visit the site and get a hosting plan because it’s really worth it.

Then, if you don’t want to read the full review, is totally fine, you can jump to the conclusions and make faster decisions.

On the other hand, if you want to learn a bit more about Siteground, keep reading and discover all pros and cons of one of the most used service providers on the web.

SiteGround Review

Siteground Review: What To Consider

The few features mentioned above are enough to start thinking about Siteground as one of the best, if not the best, web hosting service providers for ALL your needs.

The first thing we want to point out is then the “people’s voice”. So many people are very happy with Siteground, and you can find tons of positive reviews by browsing the web.

Uptime (very good), security, and CPnale ease of use are additional benefits to consider carefully.

It has a very good and progressive series of plans that adapt perfectly to your business needs, and this also applies to online stores (which generally have more needs than other websites).

Of course, also Siteground presents some downsides, just like the price, and especially the renewal prices (that in 2020 have increased significantly).

That being said, Siteground remains at the top of our suggestions.

Siteground Web Hosting Reviews

One of the things that Sitegrounds does at best, is to precisely target the needs of potential customers.

When you look at the homepage, you can see that under the “hosting” tab, you can choose between the following:

  • Hosting (for advanced users)
  • Hosting for WordPress (basically for everyone, including beginners and expert people)
  • Hosting for WooCommerce (perfect for online stores, but we’ll see that also Magento users like Siteground)
  • Cloud Hosting

We will consider the benefits of WordPress users later, for now, let’s focus the attention on additional features provided by Siteground.

First of all, they make it easier and faster to create a website from scratch, thanks to their Website Builder (also in this case, however, we do not suggest starting this way, because there are so many website templates you can use that better fit your needs).

A definitely good feature is the ease and speed of transferring websites: moreover, Siteground allows you to transfer 1 site for free.

You also have a free SSL certificate for much more security of your website.

Customer support, speed, security, and collaboration tools available for people who own more websites are other assets that make Siteground the likely best web hosting service provider on the net.

Siteground Website Builder Review

Talking about Siteground Website Builder, they found a solution good for all possible users.

It’s about Weebly, which basically is a powerful yet simple drag & drop website building tool.

So, if you’re interested in creating your website from scratch, this option is interesting and for sure you can create very good pages.

With an intuitive drag-and-drop interface, mobile-optimized themes, and also a dedicated e-commerce solution, you really can build a website from nowhere in a short period of time.

As with progressive hosting plans, Weebly has three different (and progressive as well) special plans: Starter, Pro, and Business.

Siteground Competitors

BlueHost, but also GreenGeeks, GoDaddy, Hostinger, and HostGator, along with several others (you can find their specific reviews on our website) are all competitors for Siteground.

For what concerns some features, they are similar, however, one of the things that make Siteground stand out, is in their relationship with their customers (more than 97% happy users).

Talking about speed, A2 Hosting is likely the only one can be better.

To find more comprehensive and highly advanced hosting plans for professionals, you can go for InMotion Hosting and LiquidWeb.

In addition, we like a lot the presence of their Data Centers on 4 continents.

Personal and direct experience from us: we have some websites with servers in Singapore, without and CDN on, but they are very fast and, even better, they behave the same for visitors of any country.

Another thing that makes Siteground stand out is probably the extreme ease of use of their dashboard: there are many people who report how they literally “learned” something new about technology simply by using Siteground, and this does also happen for “total newbies”.

We’re not here to say that Siteground competitors are not good, but there are several “hidden2 and unnoticed aspects that make this web hosting provider better for many people.

SiteGround Hosting

Siteground is constantly updated with features that fit the changing needs of online businesses.

This may apply to many web hosting service providers, but in the case of Siteground, there’s specific attention to integrating the best available technologies with some other technologies, that are totally unique and created by their team on a regular basis.

That’s why you can find similar features in other web hosting services, but Siteground always adds something unique to make your experience better.

Among such features, we can remember their high uptime, security, email services, and some special things dedicated to online stores that run on both WordPress and Magento.

Let’s see each of them in a bit more detail.

Siteground PHP

We want to point out the importance of the work that Siteground does when it comes to PHP.

In two of the available plans (we’ll see them in detail later) the so-called “time to first byte” (TTFB) is definitely lower than ever.

This makes web pages 30% faster.

Siteground NGINX

This is another very important feature, especially if you work on your website every day.

In fact, Siteground makes use of NGINX Direct Delivery to serve static content such as images, CSS files, JS, and more.

This improves the performance of your website because the browser cache is better, and using CDN is way easier.

In addition, Siteground also implements the QUIC Protocol, which increases a lot the page loading speed in the case of low connectivity.

Siteground SG Optimizer

This plugin is very good in all aspects.

It basically is an “all-in-one” solution for all WordPress websites that are currently running on Siteground.

We literally love this plugin, because it’s ridiculously easy to use and to configure, even though it has top-expert functionalities.

According to the company, this plugin allows to improve 30% of performances of any website that’s using it, and this also applies to already well-optimized websites.

Siteground Uptime

Siteground is very good when it comes to uptime.

In fact, there is a special checking in real-time for any possible problems a server may have.

Each server is checked every 0.5 seconds, with the aim of resolìving current issues, but also preventing future possible problems.

This is one of the essentials for such good uptime.

Moreover, you can find a very detailed Q&A page that presents everything you need to know about speed and uptime, along with tons of suggestions on how to improve things.

Siteground Site-Scanner

This is a crucial feature for sure: it’s about keeping your website (and online business) safe from attacks.

Talking about general security, Siteground is very good from the most limited and simple hosting plans.

We really like their AI system that is proven more than good in blocking bots, brute force attacks, and most malicious traffic.

Only to give a better idea, Siteground reports that their AI system usually blocks from 500K up to 2M brute force attacks every single day.

However, when it comes to security, there’s a more advanced opportunity to consider.

Siteground Sucuri

There is a partnership between Siteground and Sucuri, which is a well-respected company in the website security field.

This partnership has been going on for a long time, but in recent years, Siteground decided to use Sucuri’s services also for daily scans.

What’s the difference between using Sucuri and older systems?

First of all, Sucuri scans all the pages that are linked to the homepage (or any other page) on a daily basis, while before the scan was on a limited number of random pages.

Each threat to security is immediately notified by email, and you can more easily manage everything from your special dashboard.

Perhaps it may seem a little thing, meaning a little improvement, however, this is another great asset for websites that run on Siteground.

To complete the “offer”, you can consider installing this Security PRO Suite: a great package of tools and options to keep your website safer than ever.

Siteground Email Hosting

There are no limits to email addresses you can have in your hosting plan.

We suggest creating as much as email you need to keep your business image professional and reliable, even in the case you are a solopreneur.

An interesting feature is that now Siteground webmail is managed through only one provider, namely Round Cube (this means that Horde and Squirrel Mail are no longer available).

Easy to set up, and easy to use, with 1 Gb disk space Siteground email provides everything you need to start (or keep) running your online business very well.

Of course, if you need more you can always upgrade for more space and more features.

Siteground WooCommerce Review

This is a special feature brought to you by Siteground.

You can refer to this managed hosting plan in case you are familiar with WooCommerce, or simply you want to rely on this e-commerce platform to earn money online.

Let us point out a thing: if you plan to sell digital goods ONLY, Woocommerce is not the best choice you can make.

In these cases (again, if you sell digital products ONLY), we strongly recommend EDD (Easy Digital Downloads).

Back to WooCommerce, Siteground provides this very specific hosting with the WooCommerce plugin already installed and set up, ready for use.

Moreover, Sitegrounds provides a simple but informative tutorial on how to manage some relevant aspects, such as how to accept several types of payments, how to manage orders, and even how to customize and configure shipping and inventory.

WooCommerce is very good when it comes to physical products, and this special hosting plan provided by Siteground is a step ahead if compared to most of the proposals from its competitors.

To make things even better, Siteground takes care of WooCommerce automatic updates (in the background) and makes available a customized WAF (Web Application Firewall) for online stores to increase their protection, besides the usual security checks.

Siteground Magento Hosting

Magento is another commonly used by online stores for processing payments.

Siteground allows installing Magento directly from its dashboard tools, located in the member’s area.

From here, a wizard called “click and install” will guide you throughout the process.

You are free to select the e-commerce platform you prefer, and this includes Magento, but also Open Cart and PrestaShop. By doing so, your online store is ready in a few minutes.

Then, you also have the SSL certificate for free (which is available for any other plan), and this makes payments much safer, while search engines will start seeing your online store as a safe place.

Finally, as also happens for WooCommerce, Siteground provides daily backups for increased security.

Siteground Hosting Plans

This is the “real deal” for Siteground: we’re talking about their three different, progressive, and flexible plans you can see in the image below.

The idea behind this is to get the best for your business at any level of your online activity.

It’s very important that you read with attention the features of each plan before choosing one.

Siteground Shared Hosting

Shared hosting is the #1 choice for small businesses, as well as any other online activity that has not a lot of traffic or special needs.

So, if you’re just starting out, the Startup plan is right for your case.

We want to spend a few words about the quality of Siteground shared hosting because we are using it for several websites.

It’s reliable, and according to our experience, able to handle more traffic than stated, but you should not exceed their limit.

In the next sections you’ll find a selection of features we suggest considering because they are really important for an online business.

Siteground Startup

This is the starter plan, and it’s suggested for websites with less than 10K visitors per month.

Not so many indeed, however, it’s perfect for people who are just starting out.

You have 10 Gb of disk space, which is not so many, however, if you do affiliate marketing, for instance, it works great.

Please note that if you need to upload several files on your server, or if you’re planning to sell items and/goods, you should definitely opt for another solution (in the case of selling goods, for sure the e-commerce plan is best).

Within this plan, you can create only one website, unlimited emails, but the feature we love the most is the possibility to create unlimited MySQL databases.

Unfortunately, not all web hosting providers make this possible, that’s why we want to point this out.

If you compare hosting plans, you’ll see that this Startup plan is very good in general, and you’ll only need to upgrade when your online business will start to grow.

Siteground GrowBig

Pretty self-explanatory, the #2nd hosting plan provided by Siteground is exactly for businesses that start to grow.

Alternatively, this plan is suitable for businesses that need more, such as more disk space (20 Gb), and/or more traffic, up to 25K per month.

The feature we love the most about the GrowBig plan is the possibility to manage unlimited domains from one single dashboard.

Given the importance of website performances, this plan provides a very useful, additional feature, namely the “Siteground Super Cacher”. It is a special WordPress extension that has been developed by Siteground, with the aim of making pages even faster when loading.

In our opinion, the GrowBig plan is already great on its own and you probably would not need any premium additions.

Siteground GoGeek

This plan is the best possible for shared hosting with Siteground.

Full of great additional features, it allows to handle up to 100K visitors per month, with a disk space of 40 Gb.

This plan is particularly intended for two categories of people/businesses:

  • people who deal with a lot of traffic and/or a lot of disk space needs
  • people who want better control over some “geeky” and technical aspects of their online business

Servers are different, for each plan, and with Go Geek your server is a lot faster and more powerful than the other two plans.

But, once again, it really depends on your specific case, that’s why you should follow the rule we want to suggest to you, to make the best possible decision.

If you can afford the price (we’ll discuss that later), the GrowBig plan is perfect for starting out AND keeping your business in good shape, without the need to do so many improvements and/or upgrades.

We know that most people and many other Siteground reviews suggest you start with the Starter plan, however, we strongly believe that GrowBig is the real deal for most online businesses out there, even if they are small, or bigger, because it’s simply the best plan we use.

Siteground Cloud Hosting

Despite what we’ve seen before, there are some businesses that need more.

For instance, they need to cope with more traffic, or with more disk space.

In these cases, you can refer to the image posted above about Siteground Cloud hosting.

There are four different plans to choose from: we apologize for the process you see in euros, but in dollars, values are almost the same nowadays.

We don’t want to bore you with the various features of these plans. But there are three interesting facts to report, as highlighted by the Siteground official blog.

  • Thing #1: This service is currently used by very big websites
  • Thing #2: In general, clients prefer to set up their own cloud resources by themselves
  • Thing #3: One of the most appreciated features of this service is its “self-scalability”

This third feature basically does mean that the server learns to manage resources (CPU or RAM units) independently when particular events arise, such as traffic peaks as a consequence (for example) of important communication or advertising campaigns.

This feature prevents site accessibility problems and slowdowns that could damage the entire business.

Siteground Dedicated Hosting

Always about cloud hosting, we consider more features that Siteground added to their pipeline from several years by now. however, they are always worth mentioning.

We already talked about the worldwide presence of Siteground Data Centers (we use the one in Singapore, and there is no difference for visitors who come to our sites from all over the world).

The likely best additions to GoGeek plans are:

  • Cloudflare CDN integration in the CPanel
  • Joomla and WordPress auto updaters
  • Joomla and WordPress staging environment
  • several PHP versions

Finally, all dedicated servers can benefit from a performance booster (premium feature), which basically is a cost-effective software option for higher performance.

Another great feature available for dedicated hosting is the easy and fast management of secondary accounts, meaning that clients can create unlimited accounts for their clients, and each of these accounts has a separate CPanel and dashboard.

Siteground Reseller Hosting

Sieground is considered one of the top choices when it comes to reseller hosting.

This means that if you have the idea of doing this type of business, you’ll be totally covered.

As you can read from the dedicated page about Siteground Reseller Program, you can choose among three different plans: GrowBig, GoGeek, and Cloud hosting.

We want to point out that GrowBig is not just the #1 choice for people who are just starting out, but also for people interested to take their business to another level.

Prices are a bit higher (on a monthly basis), but this is justified by this specific type of business.

A more than good option to consider.

Siteground Hosting WordPress

Siteground is perfect for WordPress.

We’ve already considered the three plans you can choose from, and we suggest starting with the GrowBig plan if you can afford the price.

Siteground provides dedicated special attention to WordPress users.

This means that you can rely on direct assistance (24/7): moreover, WordPress running on Sitegroind benefits from greater speed and also higher safety standards. This is particularly important if you are a newbie, or simply you’re starting out your online business journey.

In fact, we assume that not all people have the chance to deepen more about security and website speed on their own, also because they focus the attention on their business.

So, working on a platform that is faster and generally safer from the very beginning is a huge advantage.

Siteground WordPress Plans

If you work with WordPress, plans are the very same we considered the shared hosting solution.

Of course, you can upgrade in case your needs grow (more traffic, more disk space, even better security).

We strongly recommend using WordPress + Siteground if you run an online store (the same applies to people who prefer using Magento).

A tip: if your e-commerce only sells digital products, we recommend using EDD (Easy Digital Downloads) for WordPress. It is an easy-to-use plugin, it’s free and currently the best possible option to sell digital goods online.

When using WordPress, you can also consider Backupbuddy as the plugin for making easy and fast backups of your website, directly from your dashboard.

CPanel Siteground

This is one of the best features Siteground makes available to its clients.

We could report very many things and benefits related to using CPanel, however, Siteground goes well beyond.

Yes, because they developed a special CPanel theme that is exclusively available for Siteground customers.

This special theme is called “Crystal” and, if possible it makes learning how to use CPanel even easier than before.

In the picture we posted above you can have a summary idea of the many features you’re going to find in this CPnale theme.

But there’s more.

In fact, Siteground makes available a detailed section on “how to use CPanel” in the best possible way, so that this theme will have no more secrets for you.

The best thing about Siteground CPanel is exactly the possibility to learn how to manage a website, and this does not happen for many web hosting service providers.

However, things have changed nowadays.

SiteGround Site Tools

This is the brand-new feature made available by SiteGround to all its users.

This is a new control panel, which gives us more control over the most common features, even though we think it needs some improvement.

If you’re a “newbie”, this interface may help you a lot focusing the attention on the most relevant things.

However, if you’re a bit more experienced, the first-view of this panel lacks some features and options, which you may prefer to be immediately visible, once you log in.

It’s a matter of preference, as always, however, we believe that SiteGround should give the possibility to switch to cPanel Crystal depending on the hosting plan.

This would make things a lot easier for everyone.

Siteground Pricing

Prices and renewal fees deserve more specific attention, because, just like in the case of BlueHost, they may be considered the only real “downside” of Siteground web hosting.

As you see from the image posted above, the initial price for all three hosting plans is very reasonable, and this is good.

Throughout this Siteground review, we said more times that if possible you should start with the GrowBig plan.

To this end, we admit that this price can be an issue for many people, especially if they are just starting out.

So, it’s your call, however, be prepared to upgrade when your hosting will have more needs.

Siteground Monthly Plan

Talking about monthly plans, we strongly recommend paying for more months in advance, so that you can save a lot of money.

We’ve seen that some other service providers do not allow to pay on a monthly basis, and this might look like an obstacle to many people.

however, in the case of Siteground, you can really save money, even more than other providers, so we suggest doing that as soon as you can afford it.

A little sacrifice that’s definitely worth it.

Siteground Fees

Fees are closely related to the corresponding hosting plans.

We want to report our direct experience: we host most of our websites with the GrowBig plan, and we pay 34€/month as a renewal fee.

This price is surely high, even though you can rely on good features and stability.

It’s a matter of balance: you must think about what you really need for your business, then make a decision.

The only thing we want to point out about the fees (we know this is a fairly subjective argument) is that Siteground delivers, meaning that you spend for top-quality services that will make your business stand out for several reasons.

Siteground Special Price

The best thing you can do to benefit from a discount with Siteground is… just start your website with any of the hosting plans we have considered before.

This because new clients are subject to reduced fees, which will help for sure to get started and set up an online business faster and easier than most competitors.

There is no coupon available, and this might sound strange, however, new customers can start very easily their business, without any hassle, which basically compensates for the lack of a coupon.

Conclusions

Siteground is our #1 choice and suggestion, for all online projects you can work on.

There is not so much to add, just go to the website and signup for the plan that’s right for your case.

If possible, we suggest the GrowBig shared hosting, but you can also start with the Startup plan. Even if you run an online store, with a significant amount of items, Siteground is more than good.

To make things even clearer, we list below a series of pros (green bullets), and cons (yellow bullets for things that could be improved, or red bullets for real downsides).

Here are the pros:

  • Siteground is probably the best option for people with small-to-medium businesses
  • Siteground is the top choice also for personal websites and solopreneurs
  • Siteground makes it a lot easier to understand how to manage a website even if you are not an expert
  • Siteground has many customized, proprietary features you’re not going to find on other service providers
  • Siteground provides the best when it comes to things like website speed, security, and PHP
  • Siteground makes you available (for free) a great plugin (SG Optimizer) to further improve the performance of your website
  • Siteground’s uptime is the best on the market
  • Siteground is the easiest provider to set up an online store, and it integrates WooCommerce, Magento, but also other carts, such as OpenCart seamlessly
  • Siteground’s hosting plans are highly affordable (to start) and progressive so that you can always match your specific business needs
  • Siteground’s exclusive CPanel theme, called “Crystal”, is the best possible interface to manage your website
  • Siteground’s customer support is considered the best in the market
  • You can also benefit from several additional things, such as free migration for 1 website, free CDN and SSL certificates, and more

Here are things that could be improved:

  • Renewal rates are a bit high
  • Some people complain about the lack of a free domain for the Startup plan
  • Talking about email, 4 Gb maximum for the GrowBig plan
  • A bit too low storage for the starting plan (the same for traffic)
  • There are no Windows-based servers (only Linux available)

Here are real downsides:

  • There are no real downsides

What to Do Now

We hope that this Siteground review was helpful for you.
